Lyrics

Caught up in a kiss

© Nicole Gordon & Gary Burr

I wasn’t looking or planning or wishing or waiting for you

Then out of the blue I’m sixteen again

And the things that I do don’t make any sense

Like smiling in my sleep

Whistling when I walk

Thinking about forever every time we talk

CHORUS

You make me remember what it feels like

To be caught up in a kiss, lost in happiness

You make me remember what it feels like

To be shaky in the knees, find it hard to breathe

And all of this sounds a little sweet somehow

But I am all about the sweet right now

You make me remember what it feels like falling in love

It’s like diving or swimming when you haven’t seen an ocean in years

But now that you’re here and I feel your touch

I didn’t know I was missing so much

Like running in the rain dancing in the dark

Losing my head and trusting my heart

CHORUS

I turned back the clock when I look in your eyes

It’s been such a long time since I felt butterflies

Lyrics

Got the Car Running Got an old, I'm talking old Ford pick-up Every day off I'm working on her Spend all my tips at the east side junk yard Finally found that carburetor Got to get this damn fuel pump working Before I go inside and get to bed He's calling me in and he means now If I ever have to leave him again CHORUS I got the car running Rebuilt the transmission Four good tires, a spare below Slam the hood, ready to roll Hope I never have to go I got the car running On our first date, he brought flowers And not just that one time either He'd walk me home when I worked late hours Said he'd never been with anyone sweeter Life has taken a toll on him Disappointments and ex-best friends I wish he'd let me make him feel better But if he ever takes it out on me again

Lyrics

Sweet Sweet Baby Sweet Sweet Baby you keep me coming back again You’re a star at this lost art you skim my heart And keep me coming back again Sweet Sweet lover you keep me hanging by a thread I suspend my time and breath hoping that You keep me coming back again Why you do what you do When you know I’m weak I’m the fool while you stay cool And hold the key to my dreams Sweet Sweet Baby You know this time you’ve done me in My flag is raised I give up the game I see no shame In coming back again Sweet Sweet Baby You keep me coming back again Time after time I buy your lines all with a smile After all you are my man

Story

Johnny and I wrote this together and also recorded it a few different times! This is the version that was released on "All my change" -another favorite to sing live~

Lyrics

Bittersweet © nicole gordon & Johnny Hawthorn One heart beat was looking left externally they never met What was a dream walked on my path I never looked back Three years I grieve the sand hath sunk Fallen dreams and a messed up kind of love It’s taken me this long to see it was no jump CHORUS Bittersweet in the time and the space where we used to breathe There were times when I knew that I should just leave then again say amen to bittersweet Memories will always be Time and space grant clarity a single beat a solo heart valued most CHORUS Lying and loving it’s worth undercoving Cause it will only eat away what was good is gone and now were left alone

Story

I started writing "Here I Carry" on the 10 Freeway in Los angeles on my way to work. I was a nanny at the time and have no clue if that had anything to do with it but I called my home phone and sang the melody to my answering machine. I've recorded this song a few times, once with Ed Tree and my band and once with a bluegrass trio, Honey Don't. (Jamie Rounds, Devitt Feely, and myself) Jim Ladd, the DJ on KLOS in LA, has played the version I recorded with Dave Merenda many times over the years, once in between Bruce Sprinsteen and Bob Dylan -that was cool!

Lyrics

Here I Carry © nicole gordon Here come the troops marching astute Fighting for their name and their survival beat their rival with whichever weapons they choose And at the heart of the recruits the image that was loudest crushed the cowards Truth was savage and the leading o f their pursuits CHORUS I’m surrounded by a lie a lie a lie Here I carry Your enemies pretend to be alive Here I carry You’re living drugless but your always high Here I carry I’m surrounded by a lie a lie a lie The task is fair you want what’s there white turns to black you can’t see but you attack and now there is no turning back When it’s done the smoke is gone The voices in the night that you thought helped you to fight But you see that you were alone CHORUS You can’t bend the truth You can’t always make up proof of disdain and mistakes and your pain

Story

I wrote this in my tiny, scary little apartment in North Philadelphia in 1996 and later recorded it in los Angeles. It won a songwriting award hosted by The Nashville Songwriters Association International and CMT in 2004 and I still remember writing this song from start to finish in about an hour! That rarely happens but I got lucky with this one. It was released on "Lost in my Head" a CD that is no longer in print but can be found on ITUNES.

Lyrics

The Road Easy © 1996 nicole gordon When we were young, it wasn’t so long ago The dreams we shared, oh the places we’d go But you’ve changed, there’s someone new And you claim that what we had is through Chorus But I can hear you, through the walls every night And I can see you, I see right through your eyes And I can feel you, you next to me But I can’t have you, you chose the Road Easy You’re new life, it seems so strange to me She wants to be your wife, and you’ll raise a family What about your dream, to be a big star To be with me, did it get too hard CHORUS It’s still so hard to believe the man that you’ve become There once was a time we were so close we were one But maybe love does that to you Maybe love changed your mind If you’re happy I’ll say I’m happy for you I hope that love didn’t make you blind

Lyrics

Shiny Bars © Nicole Gordon & William Hartley Shiny bars that’s all they are and they make it so hard to leave Invisible except to those behind them a tricky situation to flee Shiny bars not so bad lots of friends and support from your inmates But if you’ve got wings you need to test shiny bars can be such a pest CHORUS You can’t run from yourself Still you need to go To find this out for yourself The first one to trail the way devise the escape the clean getaway Out you go where it’s dark and it’s cold and all you know is those shiny bars Call you back remember why you left Shiny bars they are still bars and who can live like that CHORUS

Lyrics

Both Hands © nicole gordon & william hartley Don’t want to get swept away Don’t want to lose my way I know what fuels my fire I just need the steel and the tires And the right track for my life to drive this desire No I don’t want to be swept away CHORUS Both hands on the wheel I’m driving with Both hands on the wheel and it’s time I steal away So don’t you get too close ‘Cause I got a ways to go and don’t need another distraction I can’t spend my life getting lost Regretting how I veer off course with trivial interaction No I don’t want to be swept away CHORUS ‘Cause I’m not old but I am no longer young the road is there but the choice is mine I just stay on There’s this light too deep inside just to be tossed aside no it’s not red I know it’s green and I know what it means CHORUS

Story

Bill and I got together in the suburbs of Philadelphia in the spring of 1994, I think!??! He was looking for someone to write songs with and I was hoping I could write songs! His music moved me and off we went! "Blinded" was the first song we recorded in his bedroom/studio and still to this day, is VERY dear to my heart! LEAP, as we went on to call ourselves, released 4 records, one music video, and have had many songs placed on TV shows! Bill lives back in PA and we are great friends!

Lyrics

For so long now she's been so blind she can't even make up her mind she listens to others and follows as expected Thank God she realized how she's been so lost she's scared you see, to go out on her own but life is so short and so far what has she shown? she'll follow orders and do as she's told if you say you like her, she's good as gold and if you don't she'll do her best to adapt to you she'll pass your test she's scared you see, to go out on her own but life is short and so far what has she shown? You can fly when you try Suffocated and scared and dreams she cries she can either stay and die or say good bye
